Rachel Dowd

Rachel Dowd is an impressionist painter living and working in Northern Indiana. Through her oil and gouache paintings, she captures the quiet beauty of everyday moments—the way light settles across a garden, the soft glow of early morning, and the steady rhythm of home and nature. Self-taught, Rachel’s artistic path was shaped by motherhood and a growing attentiveness to the subtle, fleeting experiences that often go unnoticed.

Her work favors simplicity and restraint, using minimal brushwork and strong design to express light, atmosphere, and emotional clarity rather than detail. Influenced by Russian and contemporary impressionists, Rachel’s paintings do not chase grandiosity; instead, they seek truth—inviting viewers to see the ordinary with reverence, to slow down, and to pause within moments often overlooked.

Rachel’s work has been recognized nationally, including Second Place in the Still Life/Interior category at the Hoosier Salon (2025) and Best Still Life at the Plein Air Salon (September 2024). Her work has been featured in International Artist Magazine and Artists & Illustrators. She is on faculty at the Plein Air Convention (2025, 2026) and is a dedicated teacher who shares her passion for painting with others. Through both her art and instruction, she encourages a deeper way of seeing—one rooted in observation, intention, and an appreciation for life’s quiet beauty.
