American light painter, Loriann Signori, received her BFA from Swain School or Design and MFA, under full fellowship, at American University. While her preferred mediums have always been oil or pastel, her methods, techniques, and aesthetic aims have all undergone significant transformations since she first began. Her paintings, situated between abstraction and recognizable form, are explorations into the color of air, light and beauty.
Loriann is an eminent Pastelist with IAPS and has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Bronze Award in the Pastel 100. You may find her work in these magazines: Pratique Des Arts, Home and Design, Plein Air, The Globe, The Royal College of Psychiatrists, and Pastel Journal. She is a life-long educator and painter. Loriann is represented by Warm Springs Gallery in Virginia.
Loriann loves to teach and believes painting is about discovery. For her, outdoor painting is about farming for what is – so that in the studio we can create what we want the viewer to see. Participants will have plenty of individual attention. Loriannwill demonstrate using pastels, watercolors, and “the sauces.” Having a light kit is important for enjoying the plein air experience. Loriann will have a pre travel meeting with the class (via zoom) to take questions and demonstrate just how light a plein air kit can be. She will also teach how she uses her sketchbook/playbook to collect informative studies to create her large studio works.
