Mel Williamson’s success and recognition have been growing since winning “Best Work on Canvas” at her first-ever juried art show in 2013. She has a background in graphic design and illustration, and studies relentlessly, winning scholarships to both the Portrait Society of America and Menorca Pulsar in Spain (for a juried bootcamp with Jeremy Mann, who inspired her love of Plein air painting).
Mel Williamson lives and paints on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada where she creates work in a variety of genres, including the human figure, landscape, and still life. Philosophically, her paintings are limited in detail so as to invite the viewer to participate in the seeing. Her work has been described as “impressionistic, fresh and honest”.
Mel is known as a generous, kind, and open teacher, excited to share her knowledge and practices in an encouraging manner. She loves paint in all its materiality and possibility and believes there are no mistakes, only progress.
She is represented by three galleries in Canada: Steffich Fine Art (Salt Spring Island, BC), Peninsula Gallery (Sidney, BC), and Art Interiors (Toronto, ON).
